How to pay a lower USDT fee in Trust Wallet
To make a USDT TRC-20 transfer from Trust Wallet cheaper, rent TRON energy to your wallet address before you send. The network then does not burn ~6.85 TRX per transfer — you only pay for the rental.
Trust Wallet does not sell energy itself: if your address has none, the network burns TRX to run the USDT smart contract. Renting energy covers that cost. All we need is your public TRON address — your keys and recovery phrase stay in the wallet.
How to send USDT from Trust Wallet for less: 3 steps
- Copy your TRON address. In Trust Wallet, open TRON (TRX) or USDT on the TRON network and tap Receive. Copy the address — it starts with T. TRX and USDT TRC-20 share the same address in one wallet.
- Buy energy for that address. Paste the address on the buy energy page, choose the number of transfers (65,000 Energy covers one transfer to a recipient who holds USDT, 131,000 — to a new address) and the term. Energy usually arrives within seconds after payment.
- Send USDT. Wait for the energy to arrive (usually a few seconds) and send USDT as usual. Check the network fee before confirming: with enough energy it is noticeably lower.
Buy energy before you send: if a transaction already went through with burning, or failed with OUT OF ENERGY, the network does not return burned TRX.
What to know about Trust Wallet
Why Trust Wallet still asks for TRX
The wallet checks for a minimum TRX balance — about 28 TRX — even when your address has enough energy. With less TRX the USDT transfer may be blocked. Keep that reserve in the wallet: it is not spent, and energy still saves TRX on every transfer.
New recipient — 131k energy
If the recipient has never held USDT or it is an exchange address, the transfer uses about 131,000 Energy instead of 65,000. Pick the amount for your recipient, otherwise part of the fee is burned in TRX.
Bandwidth
A transfer also uses about 350 Bandwidth. The free allowance (600 per day) covers roughly one transfer a day. For more transfers, add Bandwidth to the same order or keep a little TRX.
What a transfer costs: burning vs renting
Energy use depends on the recipient, not on the amount you send. Rental is priced at the 1-hour rate.
| USDT transfer | Energy | Burning TRX | Rental, 1 hour | You save |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recipient already holds USDT | 65,000 | ~6.85 TRX | 2.60 TRX | 4.25 TRX |
| New address or exchange | 131,000 | ~13.35 TRX | 5.24 TRX | 8.11 TRX |
Prices are dynamic, data as of Sep 21, 2026. Burning includes Bandwidth; the rental covers energy only — the free Bandwidth usually covers one transfer a day. Work out your own month in the fee calculator.
