A USDT TRC-20 transfer from OKX Wallet costs less if you rent TRON energy to the wallet address in advance. It only applies to the self-custody OKX Web3 wallet — withdrawals from the exchange account are paid by the exchange.
OKX has two different places to hold funds: the exchange account and the Web3 wallet whose keys you hold. Energy matters when you send USDT yourself from the Web3 wallet on TRON. When you withdraw USDT from the exchange, the exchange charges its own fixed withdrawal fee and energy rental does not change it.
How to send USDT from OKX Wallet for less: 3 steps
- Copy your TRON address. In the OKX app switch to the Web3 wallet, choose the TRON network and copy the address from the Receive screen — it starts with T. Do not use an exchange deposit address: it belongs to OKX.
- Buy energy for that address. Paste the address on the buy energy page, choose the number of transfers (65,000 Energy covers one transfer to a recipient who holds USDT, 131,000 — to a new address) and the term. Energy usually arrives within seconds after payment.
- Send USDT. Once the energy has arrived, send USDT from the Web3 wallet. The fee on the confirmation screen should be well below the usual 7–14 TRX.
Buy energy before you send: if a transaction already went through with burning, or failed with OUT OF ENERGY, the network does not return burned TRX.
